On October 20, 2026, organizers of Auckland Arts Festival 2027 announced a new selection of international and local productions for the festival's upcoming edition, scheduled for March 4–21, 2027, in Auckland.

The latest programme additions highlight contemporary dance, innovative theatrical productions and live music experiences, strengthening the festival's position as a major multidisciplinary cultural event.

Among the highlights is internationally acclaimed Chinese contemporary dance company TAO Dance Theater, which will make its New Zealand debut with performances of 13 & 14 at the Kiri Te Kanawa Theatre on March 5–6.

Irish choreographer Luke Murphy will present Scorched Earth, a production combining psychological drama, contemporary dance and theatrical storytelling. The work will run at the ASB Waterfront Theatre from March 18–21.

The programme also includes the world premiere of The Boy from Vaiala, a new theatrical production by Victor Rodger exploring Pasifika storytelling and cultural identity.

Music programming will feature Twenty Sixteen, a live performance celebrating influential musicians who died in 2016, including David Bowie, Prince and George Michael.

Another highlight, Anthology of Wonder, will bring a large ensemble performance dedicated to Stevie Wonder's musical legacy.

These productions join the previously announced The Choir of Man, an immersive theatrical experience that transforms the festival's Spiegeltent into a traditional English pub, complete with a functioning bar and live performances.

The festival is also introducing early booking opportunities and priority ticket access for returning audiences.

For event professionals, Auckland Arts Festival illustrates how multidisciplinary programming, international collaborations and immersive venue concepts can create distinctive cultural experiences.

Its combination of international productions and locally developed performances demonstrates the value of balancing global artistic recognition with regional cultural identity.
