On October 17, 2026, Large Contemporary Art Centre opens to the public on Île Seguin, near Paris, marking a significant milestone in the transformation of a former industrial site into a major cultural destination.

The new 5,000-square-metre contemporary art centre occupies a purpose-built structure designed by internationally acclaimed architecture firm RCR Arquitectes, recipients of the 2017 Pritzker Architecture Prize.

Its inaugural exhibition, Moteur Imaginaire (Imaginary Engine), runs through March 7, 2027, bringing together 120 artworks by 55 artists from 23 countries.

Curated by Cecilia Alemani, the exhibition explores relationships between industrial heritage, human creativity and technological transformation.

The programme combines 50 works from the historic Renault art collection with 17 newly commissioned artistic projects. Participating artists include established international figures alongside emerging contemporary creators.

The opening weekend offers free admission with advance registration, while the centre's broader programme includes exhibitions, film screenings, public discussions, workshops and educational activities.

Large forms part of the wider redevelopment of Île Seguin, which also includes cultural venues, public spaces and visitor attractions.

The project illustrates how cultural infrastructure can transform former industrial territories into destinations for tourism, creative industries and public engagement.

Its combination of architecture, international exhibitions and multidisciplinary programming offers an example of destination development through cultural investment.
