On October 14, 2026, Frieze London 2026 and Frieze Masters opened in London, bringing together international galleries, collectors, curators and cultural institutions. The two fairs, running through October 18, feature 312 exhibitor presentations representing 48 countries and regions.

This year's Frieze Week is attracting particular attention for the emergence of alternative exhibition formats. The inaugural London Invitational, opening October 15, will transform 12 guest rooms at The Chancery Rosewood hotel into intimate gallery spaces. Meanwhile, the new Fair Play Art Fair introduces a different commercial model, eliminating upfront exhibition fees for artists and instead charging a 42% commission on sales.

Another independent event, Minor Attractions, is expanding into a larger hotel venue, bringing together more than 75 galleries across 16 rooms and encouraging collaborative exhibitions.

These developments reflect a broader transformation in the international exhibition industry. As traditional fairs face rising operational costs and competition for collectors, organizers are experimenting with smaller venues, alternative pricing structures and curated experiences.

The trend demonstrates how innovative event formats can create opportunities for emerging participants while offering visitors more personalized experiences.
