On October 13, 2026, Georgian media reported the opening of the 13th Nikozi International Animation Film Festival 2026 in the village of Nikozi, near the administrative boundary with South Ossetia.
This year's festival presents 85 animated films from 24 countries, bringing together filmmakers, animation professionals, students and cultural representatives for an international programme dedicated to artistic exchange.
Established in 2011, the festival combines film screenings with exhibitions, professional seminars, masterclasses, meetings with artists and educational activities for children. International participants include representatives from Germany, Poland, India, Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania, alongside academic guests from European film institutions.
The 2026 edition also marks the 1,700th anniversary of the proclamation of Christianity as Georgia's state religion, incorporating cultural heritage into its artistic programme.
Beyond its film presentations, the festival demonstrates how relatively small cultural destinations can develop internationally recognized events through specialized programming, educational partnerships and sustained international collaboration. Its location also highlights the potential of cultural events to encourage dialogue and strengthen connections between communities.
