On October 29, 2026, Reuters reported that senior executives from ExxonMobil and Chevron had cancelled plans to attend ADIPEC, one of the world's largest energy industry exhibitions, scheduled for the following week in Abu Dhabi.

According to sources familiar with the decisions, the cancellations were linked to regional security concerns and escalating geopolitical tensions.

Despite these developments, organizer DMG reported that ADIPEC remained on track for record exhibition participation, with representatives expected from more than 170 countries and over 120 exhibiting US companies.

The disruption follows similar challenges affecting other major business conferences in the Middle East.

For international event organizers, the situation highlights the importance of geopolitical risk assessment, contingency planning, executive travel security and maintaining stakeholder confidence when delivering large-scale international exhibitions.
